Our Why

Updated: Oct 14, 2020

As a fresh graduate from undergrad, I moved to another country and began my teaching career. While teaching in Ethiopia, I assimilated with the Ethiopian culture as well as with the diverse cultures of other foreigners who’d emigrated there (Rastas). I was immersed in an environment that valued fresh foods and plant based products. A major lesson learned was the importance of healthy food consumption and the body’s self healing abilities.

As an educator, I saw first hand how students would transform from being energetic to being dormant within themselves as a result of ingesting ADHD medication. I also witnessed students taking medications for depression, mood stabilization, recurrent migraines, and seasonal infections. I was troubled by the lack of attention for proper dieting and the normalizing of wellness through prescription drugs.

My desire to become a naturopathic doctor is rooted in a drive to help others and through personal experience. I have felt the benefits of using an alternative approach to managing my ADHD and incorporated coping strategies that not only improved my mental health but also my immune system. I recognize that a healthy functioning individual benefits society and a healthy society benefits the individual. It is for these reasons that Fawohodie Farm came into fruition.

"Helping you take care of yourself, so you can help take care of others"-Fawohodie
